Honeymoon | Tuileries

Yay for Friday!  And not only is it Friday, but it’s the Friday of a 3 day weekend!  We won’t be going anywhere, but I’m thankful for the day off since I’ll be second shooting a wedding today and again tomorrow.  It’ll be a little strange to be at a wedding without Ben, but I’m looking forward to working with some talented photographers. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… second shooting is possibly my second favorite thing about being a photographer.  But that’s another post  :-)

Something made me think about our honeymoon last night (of course it may also be all of our brides and grooms who are returning or about to go on their own honeymoons!), so today seemed like a good day for a Paris post!  At the end of our first week of our trip, we wandered out to stroll through the Tuileries Gardens that are in front of the Louvre.  It was a crazy foggy day but it just made the city that much more romantic.

What many of you may not know is that my husband has this goofy side… and he cracks. me. up!

And what you may know is that he is SO handsome.

I love this shot… with all the Paris traffic and the barely there Eiffel Tower… ahh :-)

Our big date night was that night.  We got all dressed up and headed out for Chez Georges… for THE most delicious meal of our entire trip.
The funny thing is that we missed the street to turn onto and were almost an hour late for our reservation!  But they were gracious and still let us eat.
At least we worked up an appetite… and have a funny story to go with it!

Happy Friday!

Being Sick (and a Sneak Peek)

Remember that sore throat I had earlier this week?  Well, it usually goes away until around dinner time.  But it’s also brought some other friends that I will spare you the details of. The good news is that I have a rock star of a doctor who called in some antibiotics for me yesterday.  I can seriously count on one hand the number of times I’ve taken an actual sick day from my day job since finishing college x-number of years ago. And today just happens to be one of those days.  So hopefully with the medicine and some legitimate rest today (I promise I’m getting off the computer after this post!) I’ll be on the mend and ready for the two weddings I’m helping to shoot this weekend.  And of course be better in time for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday!  So, here’s to legit rest, good weekends, and saying bye bye to not feeling top notch!

Be on the lookout for more of this family.  They’re awesome so I promise you won’t want to miss them :-)

Give Thanks

I woke up yesterday with a sore throat out of no where. It didn’t get worse during the day but it didn’t really get better either.  And while this is a minor set back compared to what so many are dealing with, I had to smile when I came across this image while editing a wedding…

It’s as if it was left there on purpose as a reminder… It was a simple verse on a simple white board in a simple classroom at my church where we shot Mandy & Kevin’s wedding (Part 1 & Part 2) at the beginning of the month.  The bride and groom were getting ready in other rooms and had nothing to do with this verse being where it was and when. But I couldn’t helped but be stopped by it. I’d actually completely forgotten about it until last night.  And it just seemed so fitting.

So, whatever you’re up to today, whatever might be standing in your way, whatever you believe, I hope you’re able to give thanks.

I’m giving thanks to God for you and the sweet relationship I have with you. Sending much love and praying for your sore throat to get better soon.

Clemson Girls… Best in the World

This time of year I always get a little nostalgic.  Summer is coming, students are coming home from college and high school students are getting ready to graduate.  This time of year, even though I’m now far removed from school, always feels the same.  Even though I don’t get summers off anymore, it just feels like summer!  And I love it.  I love the warmer weather, I love running into students at church who are home for the summer, I love the excitement of the high school students as they have many “lasts” before heading off to college.

This year though, marks 10 years since my class graduated from Clemson.  Yes, I just aged myself.  It was crazy enough when it had been 10 years since high school, but really…??  10 years since college??  Well, not for me really because I was on the five and a half year plan :-)  But that’s another story for another day.  The bottom line is that when I started school in 1998, four years later it was 2002 and the majority of people I started school with were graduating.  So, to celebrate that, the girls that I shared a freshman bible study with decided we should celebrate.  So, we reserved a couple of rooms at the James F. Martin Inn just off of campus, went to Tiger Town Tavern for dinner, had a combined baby shower for three of the girls, stayed up way too late talking, then got up to go to lunch and wander around downtown Clemson.  It was nothing short of perfection.

These girls mean the world to me.  I met them freshman year when I realized I was making friends with too many guys (sort of a byproduct of being in engineering) and began praying for a solid group of godly girls.  I had no idea how far above and beyond God would answer that prayer.  We just clicked.  We were all roommates the following years – in some combination or another – we’ve been in each other’s weddings, we’ve held each other’s babies, and each year we get together with the husbands and some of those babies in the mountains or at the beach.  These girls have carried me through some rough times, they’ve made me laugh more than I’ll ever be able to describe, they’ve held me accountable when it wasn’t easy to, and they’ve been there to lend strength when I couldn’t do it on my own.  To say that I love them seems like a grand understatement.

My prayer for my high school girls that are graduating next week (I’ve already shed a few bittersweet tears over this!!), is that they find a group of friends like I did; that they are able to find girls that will hold them up, carry them through, laugh with them, cry with them, listen to them and come to them when they need a shoulder to cry on.

The funny thing is that I didn’t want to go to Clemson at all.  In fact, it was my last choice of where to go!  At the time, it was my “fall back plan”, but now, I don’t think I’d have a prayer of being accepted!  Luckily for me, God’s plans are always far better than my own.

I’m so excited about these babies… we realized that with Jennifer having a girl and Kristen having a boy, we’ll have 5 of each in our group. Allison will be the tie breaker :-)
AND, we also realized that 6 of these babies will all be within a couple of years of each other and will be at Clemson together.  heehee :-)

Happy Monday!

And of course those babies will have arranged marriages…

Joanna + Ben | Folly Beach, SC Wedding Photographer

She was sitting in front of the mirror as others buzzed around her – fixing her hair, applying make-up, asking questions – and she had that calm excitement about her.  Every once in a while she’d make a face or look at me with that excited anticipation that only brides give on their wedding day. And one moment at a time, pieces started coming together and before we knew it, she was sliding into her dress and ready to go see her groom.

As he waited to see her, it was easy to see that he was in good spirits. But there was a bit of anxiousness that came with his calm demeanor.  But the moment he heard her voice, the moment she tapped him on the shoulder, all that they were holding inside melted away as they stood hugging, just the two of them, with nothing but the sound of the ocean and voices of friends and family drifting up from the beach.

Joanna and Ben, you guys were nothing short of perfect on your wedding day last weekend on Folly Beach. The laughter and the tears and all of the hugs just show how much you two are cared for and loved.  First, thank you for allowing us to capture the day you became husband and wife.  Second, thank you for being such wonderful friends.  It was nothing short of sheer joy to be there and watch the day unfold through the lens of my camera.  There are a lot of favorites, but I hope you enjoy them as you start to unwind from your time in Jamaica!

My Ben went to photograph Joanna’s Ben getting ready.

Nic, Joanna’s brother, was the Bachelor of Honor and stood by her side.

Ben is from Florida and is a huge Gators fan so Joanna surprised him with these Florida garters.

Joanna, my friend… you are so beautiful.

I definitely don’t require my brides to see their grooms before the ceremony, but boy do I love when they do.
That look on Ben’s face says it all.

Right there? Where Joanna looks so peaceful? It’s another reason I adore First Looks.

This might be a favorite.

The wind was a little strong that day, but everyone just went with it :-)

It would have been really easy for Joanna’s nephew to have stolen the show that day!

My Ben captured this one.

Ben is a huge sports nut. So it was only appropriate that his guys’ gifts were baseball hats and miniature bats.

You guys.  This is STUNNING.

Joanna’s mom and bridesmaids did an amazing job with the flowers!

And Joanna’s friend Jackie did an outstanding job on the cupcakes!

Um, can we say adorable??

And then… it was time!

Even with First Looks, there’s nothing like a groom watching his bride come down the aisle.

…or dance down the aisle!

Only four people knew Joanna and her dad were going to DANCE down the aisle.  Ben wasn’t one of them :-)

And it was her dad’s idea! That’s how awesome their family is.

And to top it off, when her dad gave her away, instead of shaking Ben’s hand… they did a chest bump.

As they were praying, a flock of birds flew over in a perfect V-formation.

The one on the left may be my absolute favorite.

Just a few more portraits at sunset…

You know what’s coming…

You know that toasts that make you laugh and cry are good toasts :-)

And then it was time to dance!

You might recognize these two from their wedding in March.  Love them.

And before we knew it, it was time for their last dance.
